Ideas For March
Hold off pruning and planting out tender plants until the frosts have passed. The weather in February may have been unseasonably hot, but we are still having frosty nights.
Start mowing. The warmer weather has started the grass growing. If you haven’t had your mower serviced, why not get that done before you start mowing. It will make your machine last longer.
Deadhead hydrangeas. Many common types of hydrangea (mophead and lacecap) flower on old wood, so you don’t want to cut them to the ground. Just chop off the old flower heads to the next strong bud on the stem.
Start putting in plant supports for your herbaceous plants – or just weave attractive shapes from hazel or willow stakes to add interest to your borders before the flower come.
